Today is the birthday of one of the greatest American Presidents-Abraham Lincoln!

A few announcements and fun as to how Illinois Courts celebrate this day and other notable birthdays-
- Announcement! The courts are closed in Illinois. We are the only State that actually closes the courts in commemoration of Lincoln’s Birthday.
- Then again, on Monday, February 17, since the Legislature moved celebration of President’s Day to always be the second Monday in February, we close the courts then instead of separately doing February 22, which is the actual birthday of the Father of our Country; George Washington.
- On March 2nd, Cook County Courts will be closed again in honor of Casmir Pulaski Day. This is another unique Cook County-ism! Casmir was a Polish nobleman who was a General in the American Revolution to help the cause of freedom.
- So today is a State of Illinois holiday. Monday, February 18th is a Federal Holiday and Monday, March 2nd is a Cook County holiday!!!
- While we honor these founding fathers with closing Courthouses, many others choose to honor President’s Day in the time honored tradition of spending money at Present’s Day sales!!!
